What is In Places Between?
Four Calgary Writers’ groups, Calgary’s Imaginative Fiction Writers Association, Calgary Crime Writers, the Alberta Romance Writers’ Association and the Alexandra Writers’ Society, invite you to submit your original written works of fiction to our 2016 short story contest ‘In Places Between’.
IFWA will hold the contest in conjunction with the new When Words Collide literary convention to promote the writing and enjoyment of popular fiction in all its forms.
IFWA Special Events
IFWA organizes and participates in many special writing events including:

Each year IFWA organizes a reasonably priced, local writing workshop for a limited number of members. Past workshop leaders include such distinguished writing professionals as Robert J. Sawyer, Ben Bova, Mike Resnick, R. Scott Bakker, Connie Willis, Jack McDevitt, James Alan Gardner, Edo van Belkom and others.
Readings
Throughout the year there are opportunities for IFWA members to read publicly at venues such as bookstores and libraries.
Retreats
Two times per year IFWA organizes an informal retreat where members can gather for the weekend and dedicate time to writing. There is no cost and it is not an overnight thing (unless you want to write all night!). Saturday night features readings and a pizza party.
When Words Collide
When Words Collide is Calgary’s festival for readers and writers. IFWits participate in both panels, such as the popular Writers at the Improv, and on the entertainment side of things, with radio-plays, a and readings. IFWA also holds a contest in association with When Words Collide.
